In Love with Pro Bono

Seasons change. Children grow up. Friends grow apart. Businesses grow out of each other.

Nevertheless, Pro Bono is just going through a hiatus, and it is undoubtedly coming up in a new, refreshing appearance.

It’s already been more than four months since I shared my last post with Pro Bono. During that time, I kept moving between Safaga, Luxor and Giza. My depression was playing hide-and-seek with me.

Sometimes, I’m on cloud nine while other times, I’m down in the dumps. Mood swings as if I

were riding waves, but the problem is that I don’t know how to swim and I fear water.

A few months ago, I applied for a chance to study, and work, in another Arab country, but I

wasn’t lucky to be among the accepted applicants. I feel as if I’m back to square one, having to figure out what I want to do next.

There’s, however, one thing I’m certain about: — I like to volunteer and I want to make a change in this world with whatever I have. Pro Bono is the right place where I can do that. The organizations and causes we support align with my values and principles. I do volunteer with other projects but Pro Bono is like the first love that shaped me in many aspects. As it witnessed me going through dark moments, it provided me the space that my writing skills needed to bloom. It's also where my translation level rocketed thanks to the reviewers' constructive feedback.

You must have learned by now that Pro Bono went through changes in the management team. Andrew and his crew left us but their imprints on Pro Bono, as well as on my soul, will be there forever. The new blood in the team is going full steam, recruiting more organizations, volunteers and ideas.

In the meantime, I will eagerly wait to lend a hand with more translations, posts and beyond as soon as they’re back on track. And hopefully you, the GREAT Pro Bono volunteers, will come along with me!

Until then, if you have any ideas or thoughts on refreshing our Pro Bono and recruiting more

charities, feel free to drop Cynthia a message.
