Calling all interpreters...
We've been talking about this, but the time has come! In order to better serve ProZ Pro Bono partners who require interpreting, we will be using a new platform currently being developed by the ProZ.com team. The platform is called Remoto, and I know many of you have already registered, but stay tuned to this post for some important information anyway... So, if you are an interpreter and haven't already registered, start here: https://www.proz.com/remoto/ Be sure to fill ou

15 million words is a lot of words
June is a good month. My birthday is in there somewhere (points to the person who guesses the day!), and we hit 15 million words translated. Thank you to all of the volunteers who made this possible, and to our partners for providing opportunities for us to do good in the world! So many non-profits that need to reach people with vital information do not even know it is possible to break the language barriers they have just by getting in touch. If you know of a worthy cause in

Benefits of Hiring a Human Translator
As a language service provider for over 3 years now, I have learned some important reasons for hiring human translation services. This could sound redundant to many of you, but it is always good to share why our profession is so important and how much value we add to each product and service, thanks to our experience and passion for languages. The first reason to hire a human translator is the importance that we give to accuracy. In other words, we try to make sure that the t

Adding your PPB activity to your LinkedIn profile
If you use LinkedIn as part of your professional presence online, you may want to consider showcasing your status as a PPB volunteer there, if you haven't already. You can add this as part of your work experience, but you can also add it in the "Licenses and certifications" section (you may need to add this section if you don't have it yet). Here's how: If you don't have the section in your profile already, add it by going to the top of your profile and clicking on the "Add s

Open House: this Friday, May 15th
What are you up to this coming Friday? I'll be at this month's Open House, and it would be great to see you there. I am nnnnnnnnot too sure about all the yellow in that image, but I'm trying to do things that scare me every now and then. When Friday rolls around, you will be able to join using this link: meet.google.com/hxd-pehw-wzt You should also have received an invite/link in the PPB newsletter, which went out today. Hope to see you there!

An update from the garden...
I'm not sure if I'm on to something, or if I'm merely creating an abomination in my garden, but the good news is, our Evergreen garden is looking promising... Check out what is available and submit your translations starting at prozprobono.world/evergreen-pieces

14 million words translated
In April we hit 14 million words translated. Thank you to everyone involved in reaching this milestone: from our hard-working and generous volunteers putting in the time to deliver high-quality and vital work that reaches people in need around the world, to our partners for trusting in us and providing opportunities to do good with our words (written and spoken!). Any bets or predictions on when we'll be celebrating 15 million? 😉

The more the merrier...
Right now, volunteers are needed in some specific languages for ongoing and upcoming projects, but anyone who wants to help, regardless of language, is welcome!

Thank you, volunteers! 13 million words...
In March, we hit 13 million words translated by PPB volunteers. In this first quarter of 2026, we are translating just over half a million words each month, and that doesn't look to be slowing down. We currently serve 150 organizations/causes around the world. Congratulations and thank you to every volunteer who has given of their time and expertise so far (and thank you in advance for those still waiting for their first project)!

The Evergreen gallery is now open for viewing
Some time last year, we started offering ProZ Pro Bono volunteers who have worked on an Evergreen piece the option to send their translations through review with other volunteers, so that they can be featured openly on the PPB website. The thinking with this was to provide something beyond just practice, allow opportunities for the translator-reviewer interaction, and better showcase what our volunteers can do. Well, the Evergreen gallery is now open for visits! The first r

Wiki Project Med needs your help to bring vital healthcare information to everyone
Though I did not have the opportunity to participate directly, I remember back in 2011, when ProZ.com was supporting Translators without Borders more actively, and my coworker and mentor, Enrique Cavalitto , started mentioning this whole Wiki Project Med thing. What does that mean and why don't they call it Wiki Med Project , my overly-structured brain thought. Enrique was the lead on the ProZ.com side of collaborating with TwB, and aside from helping provide the platform for

Forgot to celebrate, remembered to admire: Cicero
I have to admit—I almost forgot to celebrate Cicero. But as it turns out, remembering him is far more important than remembering a birthday. Born on 3 January 106 BCE , Marcus Tullius Cicero was not just a Roman statesman, orator, and philosopher; he was also one of the earliest thinkers to reflect systematically on translation, long before Translation Studies became a formal discipline. Cicero occupies a special place in the history of translation theory. He was a pre-Transl
