An Example of Scams.

Updated: Feb 4

Listen to this article here.

There are many examples of scams nowadays, and I want to show you one of these cases. I got this message from a scammer recently. He did not ask me any questions; he just said "Hello" and sent me a document without much information. You could also read in the document that you just have to get in touch with the person on Telegram or email to get more details.

As you can see, this message and document sound suspicious because they do not have further information, such as a profile picture and a real name. This could not represent a big deal; people sometimes prefer to use a nickname online, but it gives a first bad impression from the person as a businessman.

Besides, the document sent has an email and a link for reaching out on Telegram that it is forbidden for all the associates to freelancing job websites like Fiverr and Upwork. The reason is that you are getting clients due to their marketing campaigns and payment methods, so you have to keep the conversation inside their applications to respect their association with you. Therefore, you could realize that this person is a scammer because they are not following the freelancing job website rules and giving detailed information about their own job positions.

On the other hand, indeed is a job site and a global job matching platform, so it is a real company where anyone could become one of their candidates or associates. Sadly, this company's name has also been used in scams, so they have decided to publish this advertisement on their official website: "Be careful with scammers who pretend to be part of Indeed's staff. Indeed's usage is free for candidates. You should never accept sending payments to a possible business or third party that guarantees to be representing Indeed." In conclusion, you could visit official company websites to find scam alert advertisements and get contact information for consulting if their job offers are legit.

Unfortunately, these situations are frequent when we work online, but it is not something to be worried about. In this particular case, it took me a couple of minutes to detect the scam alerts from this message. You could also remember these scam indicators: Telegram, weird links, no facts, fake names, no questions about you and your work experience, no real interest in giving you further information about their company and their current job positions, and an impersonal approach to you. Lastly, there are many ways to detect scams, but always try to follow your instinct that never fails.
