ProZ Pro Bono news, June 2025

Thanks for your patience...

I know there has been some What is going on? making the rounds with regards to ProZ Pro Bono.

Wearing the PPB hat is new for me, and has been different enough from wearing my ProZ.com hat that things have not happened as quickly or as efficiently as I-- or you, surely-- would have liked. A silver lining (for me at least) is that I am learning a lot, and I hope to be able to turn that into improvements for everyone. But the main thing I want to say is, PPB is still very much a thing, and I hope that we will all be able to build on the wonderful work that has already been done so far and continue to do great things in the industry and in the world.

I appreciate everyone who has reached out, those who have been responsive to my reaching out, those who have been willing to smile in the face of a certain level of ineptness on my part, and those who have graciously given of their time and patience with me as I get my "PPB sea legs" as it were. Thank you!

Welcome Nesrine Echroudi, new PPB Project manager

Some of you may already know Nesrine Echroudi, who has been with ProZ Pro Bono for a while now, and has also done work with Translators without Borders. Based in Tunisia, she has been in the industry for 17 years, and works in Arabic, French, and English. If you didn't already know her, you'll have a better chance now, as she takes on project management duties for PPB. She knows her stuff a lot better than I do, so it's good to have her on board!

One of my immediate goals is to have at least two project managers for PPB, so stay tuned for more news on that.

23K word project (Religious)

A new PPB client, Young Life, approached requesting the translation of a book called Lead Like Mary, from English to Spanish, French, and Swahili. Young Life and the material to be translated is of a religious (Christian) nature, but for those who enjoy projects in that field it may be an interesting one:  https://www.proz.com/services/project/4513

LOOP and PPB opportunity notifications

I am going to be making some improvements to the way ProZ Pro Bono projects get posted and volunteers get notified, but in the meantime, remember that opportunities will be posted through the Language Operations Outsourcing Portal (or LOOP for short), and the emails will have the subject line New Pro Bono opportunity! [LOOP]. Depending on the email client you use, you may have to "train" your inbox to not filter these notifications to a sub folder-- for example, in Gmail it might be common for them to get filtered to the "Updates" folder, where most of us probably don't check in too often.
